Es un conguero mexicano (conga), líder latino de la banda del jazz, y cantante del salsa. En 2000, Sanchez y su conjunto ganaron el premio Grammy al mejor álbum de jazz latino por su trabajo en el álbum Concord Picante Latin Soul. Sánchez ha actuado con artistas como Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaría, Hugh Masekela, Clare Fischer y Torre del Poder, entre otros.
